In 2005, Rookwood Partners spent nearly $20 million dollars to purchase a track of land consisting of homes in Norwood, OH (click Here for map), and demolish the homes built upon it. When the City of Norwood, at the behest of developer Jeffery Robert Anderson, attempted to invoke the right of eminent domain to allow expansion of the Rookwood Commons (a 23 acre shopping and dining center), it incited local residents who refused to sell to take their case all the way to the Ohio Supreme Court in the case of City of Norwood v. Horney (one of the homeowner). Now, over two years later, the result is a barren strip of 11 acres of prime real estate, a Supreme Court battle, and a community divided over the battle between developer and home owner.
